Frequently Asked Questions
Where have you sourced the jewellery for Parampara?
All jewellery from Parampara has been sourced by Kayo Chang Black, the director and founder of Parampara Jewellery. She has personally researched antique shops, vendors, estates, friends, and families in Sri Lanka to collect unique pieces and their stories.
How do you ensure that the jewellery is authentic?
Kayo has been documenting and archiving Sri Lankan history and culture since she’s moved to the country in December 2019. She has participated in several historic preservation projects, working with local artisans and academics. She consulted antique dealers, jewellers, and historians to learn about the authenticity of the pieces she has found. Furthermore, Kayo has read widely about Sri Lankan jewellery, researched at the Colombo National Museum, where it has a large holding of Sri Lankan antique jewellery. To understand the manufacturing aspect of Sri Lankan jewellery, Kayo has also apprenticed under a local jeweller and interviewed her extensively. Finally, all silver from Parampara Jewellery has been tested with the Nitric Acid Test and all gemstones have been inspected by a gemologist.
